Discover how we do it

Governance

Good governance ensures there are mechanisms in place to keep your business viable and sustainable. This means establishing sound policies (some required by law) and regularly checking that they’re being properly implemented.

We can help:
  • Identify which policies your business needs, and get them approved.
  • Effectively implement policies according to the Companies Act, the King Report on Corporate Governance, and ISO standards (which represent international best practice).
  • Advise on committee structures that are appropriate for your business.
  • Close gaps in existing policies, and monitor their success over time.
  • Ensure your Directors perform their legal duties of care, skill and diligence.
  • Guide on how to balance the ‘triple bottom line’ by focusing on not only profit, but also people and the planet.

Risk

The rate of change, growing market volatility and complexity, high expectations from stakeholders, and pressure from regulators and the government forces businesses to be risk-informed. To thrive, you need to anticipate risks, adapt to changing environments, and use your resources well.

We can help:
  • Advise how risks relevant to your business may impact your future strategy and performance.
  • Ensure that risk management is part of your business strategy, day-to-day operations and business continuity plans.
  • Design a programme to fit your specific business needs, expectations and culture.
  • Design and support your business to implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure the independent reporting of accurate, valid and complete risk information to your relevant governance and business forums.
  • Ensure that you manage client, supplier and other third-party contracts effectively.
  • Through workshops, compile and facilitate the compilation and maintenance of risk registers.
  • Advise on the development of key risk indicators, risk control self-assessments and scenario planning to help you manage your risks effectively.
  • Guide business on how past losses can be used to identify control weaknesses, improve controls and minimise future losses.

Compliance

Compliance risk refers to the financial and reputational damage your business faces if it fails to comply with the laws and regulations applicable to it. These risks include fines, penalties, and loss of business due to client contracts being cancelled.

We have seen a direct correlation between increased non-compliance when revenue is under pressure. And given the complex, ongoing changes in the business environment, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But that’s where Jirrah comes in!

We can help:
  • Identify which legislative, regulatory and industry requirements your business has to comply with.
  • Identify if your business has accepted certain compliance responsibilities due to contractual clauses.
  • Translate these requirements into plain language and operational actions.
  • Predict the impact of emerging regulations on your business strategy.
  • Determine the right compliance roles and accountabilities (this can include drafting job descriptions and helping with interviews).
  • Identify and assist in compiling regulatory reports for submission.
  • Drive a compliance culture in your business.
  • Develop integrated compliance capabilities to better anticipate global trends and best practice, increase efficiency, and evolve your business strategy.
  • Guide you on how to manage compliance risk effectively to avoid financial losses due to cancelled or suspended third-party contracts.

Training

Training is vital to any governance, risk and compliance project to ensure your employees understand complex technical governance, risk and compliance requirements. This improves their skills and knowledge, which in turn builds confidence and increases productivity and innovation within your business.

We can help:
  • Analyse the different audiences in your business in order to effectively tailor training to fit their way of learning.
  • Explain complex and technical requirements in plain language.
  • Train your Boards, executive management, governance, risk, compliance and legal professionals, as well as general staff.
  • Provide practical examples during training to help your employees understand concepts and principles, so they can successfully implement them within their roles.
  • Offer practical advice during training and answer specific questions from attendees.
